Those Catholic priests are mighty selective aren't they?
There's a group of Catholic priests who are mightily pissing me off. I can't beleive with all of their spiritual gifts and resources they are trying to get people to vote for Bush. Come on people. This is disgusting. It's amazing to me that you sift through the Bible, especially the New Testament and what you focus on is abortion and homosexuality and stem cells. There's SOOOOO much in the Bible about create a just society. There is so much in the Bible about supporting those in need. There is so much in the Bible about the dangers of judging the morals of someone else. Yet somehow, it's all about three things.
The funny thing is, in the work I do, Catholics rock. The US Conference of Catholic Bishops are on the front lines of fighting for poverty reduction. They are on the front lines of letting people into the country in a just way. I work with committed moral Catholics every day whose hearts break for those people who are most vulnerable and actually spend their time doing something about it. In the work I doing fighting for refugee rights and economic justice, the GLBT community isn't even coming close to the table. Neither are the anti-war protesters. Why do people think that liberals are out of touch? That's why. The people helping me on issues of welfare reform are the Catholics.
Abortion, stem cells, and homosexuality just aren't high in their list in creating a just society. Yet, a bunch of crazy ass Bishops start yakking about how those are hte only factors in choosing a candidate and the Catholics I work with are invisible.
It's amazing to me that you can choose someone to ensure the well being of our nation on issues that are so deeply personal. Somehow, on issues we all have consensus about, building a just society, ensuring environmental protections, ensuring that our economy is strong, certain Catholics are telling us to ignore the Great Pretender's record.
