Thoughts from Texas

So two weekends ago, I was in the Dallas area for work and as it turns out that was the same weekend mr. activision's grandmother passed away. Bizaarely good timing. I was good that I was already in town to support the in laws and that our bank account did not get squashed because of it. I'll let mr. activision talk about the passing of his grandmother. I was just glad to be there.

As I spent time in the bizaare Republic of Texas a few things came to mind. The first happened when I was sifting through mr. activision's grandmother's things and saw thing like her marriage certificate and thank you cards etc etc and how invariably the woman signed her name Mrs. Frank Smith. She didn't have her own identity she was simply Mrs. Blah blah blah. It blows my mind away that two generations ago, there was practically no record of your identity as a married woman. You were Mrs. blah blah blah. You weren't even Mrs. Jean Blah blah blah. After you were married you simply ceased to exist in official documents. Are THOSE the good old days?

And the other bizaare occurence happened when we ate breakfast at the Waffle House the last day we were in Texas. While we were busy eating our shredded potatoes and waffles, we overheard the staff talking aobut their injuries. One woman talked about how she was shot at a party and didn't noticed it. She proceeded to say "It wasn't nearly as bad as when my boyfriend stabbed me." So when we pay the bill, this same waitress asks us where we're from. We tell her Washington, DC and she goes "The Murder Capital of the World? I could never live there." Hilarious.
