Too much to talk about

First of all. I hate Ralph Nader. Not because he was delusional to think that there wasn’t a difference between Democrats and Republicans. Not because he “took away” votes from Democrats. After all, if Gore weren’t such a weenie in the last election and Democrats weren’t so hell bent on nominating the most boring, obtuse candidate possible, the Nader factor wouldn’t be a factor. What I hate about Ralph Nader and why I will actively encourage people NOT to vote for him is that he almost never said a goddamn thing about how shitty The Great Pretender was and continues to be. Months of campaigning in 2000 and he didn’t highlight Texas’ atrocious environment record, horrible corporate tax structure, and shitty, shitty funding of public schools. There were tons of things in The Great Pretender’s record that could have been highlighted by a third party candidate. Not a fucking peep.

Moreover, doesn’t anyone remember who was his running mate? Winona LaDuke. Does anyone even know what she sounds like? Nope. Why? Because the Nader campaign was a NADER. Why should an intelligent, articulate advocate and organizer for Native American rights, women’s rights, and environment justice need a voice? I mean Geraldine Ferraro got to campaign more than Winona LaDuke.

So Sex and the City ended Sunday. I’m still grieving. I loved every part of the ending…except for Carrie. This season each of the women grew. Miranda opened herself up and Charlotte went from the person needing support from Harry to the person supporting Harry, Samantha can actually enjoy a relationship. I ma such an easy sell because I was boohooing all over the place with the deterioration of Miranda’s MIL and Charlotte’s Chinese baby. Carrie? I can’t believe that Carrie believed Big’s bullshit. Six years of emotional distance. Six years of never committing, marrying stick figures with no soul, cheating on said stick figures. And you believe it’s different? For more on that read Lisa Schmeiser’s teevee entry: http://www.teevee.org/archive/2004/02/23/index.html.

Finally, Mel Gibson’s Passion of Christ. I don’t understand how “Christian,” “Family-friendly,” churches can think about organizing family outings to this movie. It’s a polarizing movie and people can disagree with its politics or its spiritual beliefs but everyone says it’s bloody. Children should not go to a movie where a man is flayed. Sorry for being a prude but I have to wonder how much these churches care about the well being of their younger parishioners.
