2004-01-20 - 4:40 p.m. Life Overwhelming Mr. Activision and I are in one of the points of life where everything happens at once. First he becomes Executive Director of his organization. Good for him! I say this in all honesty (and not because I’m biased at all) that mr. Activision is a truly talented manager. He has really been able to empower people to do their best work and develop their skills and talents. I’ve seen how he’s handled radically different personalities and built a strong project around those personalities. Are we now a Washington power couple? Where’s our tastefully appointed townhouse? Well, that’s the other piece of news. We’re finally moving. After two years of bitching about the ridiculously high rents we pay, we decided to move to close to where mr. Activision works. In fact, three blocks away. It’s in a rather tony part of Capitol Hill and surprisingly we are getting TWO bedrooms for $150 less in rent. It’s amazing how quickly these things happen. Mr. activision saw the listing and we weren’t really actively thinking of moving but then we talked with the owner and then saw the place and it was “call off the dogs, the hunt is over” time. The place has a small living room, a small office/second bedroom and a decent size bedroom and a HUGE kitchen. Big enough for a breakfast table. Whee! Best of all it has a BIG BIG BIG patio/backyard where there are already rosemary, lavender and thyme plants growing. It’s got a nice little BBQ and some chairs and lots of space for entertaining. What we sacrifice in living room size, we make up for in backyard and kitchen. It will be nice to have a guest room/office/sewing room. It does mean we can’t have more than four or five people over when the weather’s bad. Ah well. The landlord is super duper nice. He’s a materials scientist for the Smithsonian and he develops processes to keep things preserved. He REALLY wanted us to move in. When we said we couldn’t completely move in until March, he lowered our first month’s rent. YEAH BABY! In yet other news, we spent the three-day weekend in Florida going to the wedding of mr. Activision’s college friend to her girlfriend. It was nice to celebrate our anniversary by going to someone else’s wedding. It was a beautiful wedding with TONS of lesbians, complete with a dedication to the four winds, a crystal sharing ceremony, and some of the most beautiful vows I ever heard. They vowed something along the lines of “loving that which I know and trusting that which I have yet to discover.” Sunday was the actual day of our anniversary and it was damn near magical. We went to the post-wedding brunch and had a chance to talk with the happy couple. After that, we went to where mr. Activision went to college. It was so incredibly beautiful. It’s like some progressive hippie Disneyland. Although we went to one of the dorm rooms that mr. Activision lived in and the door had a Bush/Cheney sticker. (Let’s not talk about Iowa.) Mr. Activision refused to let me take a picture. I love in that part of Florida, you are ALWAYS near the water. We spent the rest of the day hanging out at the beach and searching for seashells by the seashore. It was really lovely. We were originally going to go someplace NICE but we were too tired to dress up and went to some place call Barnacle Bill’s. It was one of the best meals of our lives. Seriously. Barnacle Bill’s.
