In Style
I am about to be traveling for work three weekends this month. Aside from taking the usual toiletries and clothes, along with my quilting, I am eager to get the latest In Style with Uma Thurman on the cover. After reading this article: http://www.csmonitor.com/2004/0310/p09s01-coop.html, I am realizing why. In Style is about conspicuous consumption and pretty people and it makes no bones about it. It’s not about scaring women and telling them their lives suck, it’s about being the magazine version of a really nice mall where the mannequins are celebrities. The difference between In Style and say Ladies Home Journal with it's "Why Your Child Will Turn Into a Monster if You Don't Read It Pat the Bunny" articles, is like the difference between Entertainment Tonight and your local news broadcast(We Gone Into Your House and Found Bacteria!). Let's all hear it for shallow entertainment!
