Blast from the Past...make htat NUCLEAR blast
Ok. No ex-boyfriends pledging their love to me or anything like that but I received a call from verucaamish 2.0. Out of the blue a guy calls me at work saying he went to Scaremont McRacist College and said that he was putting together a follow up report for sexism, racism and homophobia at Scaremont and he wanted to interview me because I was a co-chair of the Women's Forum. So I talk and talk and talk about all the bullshit that went on. I talked about how I had to fight with the ASIAN students at Scaremont to push for an Asian American Student Center. I talked about how the Take Back the Night Marchers got hecklers and dorms would put up signs saying "Go away" (one of the tamer signs). Reminisce about how the President of Scaremont overturns the judicial board's decision to overturn a student who was accused of sexual assault. Reminisce about the incident where a student wrote "geld gays" on a wall and the whole campus backed him up in the name of free speech. In the course of this walk down memory lane, I find out the guy I'm speaking to is gay and Asian and separated himself from CMC once he left. This is so cliche but it was healing to talk about that stuff. To laugh about it with someone who shared that piece of my journey. To see things had gotten better enough for him and others to be out and not receive shit for it.
It makes me sanguine enough to noodle with the ideas of starting a Queer student Alumni association. It makes me sanguine enough to google some of my former classmates.
